Energy Storage Graphene Supercapacitor
2026/09/29
Introductions
Supercapacitors are safer, more durable, and capable of faster charging and discharging than lithium batteries, but they typically operate at lower voltages around 2.7 V. Our institute’s graphene-based supercapacitors, made with plasma-synthesized graphene, reach higher voltages of 4 V, increasing energy density and reducing module size by more than 50%.
Technical Advantages and Features
- High Chemical Stability: Using plasma-synthesized graphene, which has stable internal chemical properties and no surface functional groups, we have developed a high-voltage (4 V) supercapacitor module.
- Reduce Module Size: Plasma-synthesized graphene, paired with our proprietary lithium-ion electrolyte, offers excellent affinity, quick charge exchange, and faster reactions, enabling higher energy storage in the same volume.
- High Energy and Power Density: Achieves high energy and power density, cuts module size by half, and drastically shortens charging time from 5C to 100C while ensuring safety and boosting commercial value.
Industrial Applications and Business Opportunities
- Industry Applications
- Energy storage industry, electric vehicle industry, and electronics industry.
- Application Examples
- Demonstration and validation have been successfully conducted on Xiluo electric fruit and vegetable transport vehicles and the Kaohsiung Light Rail Tram.
- This technology offers ultra-fast charge and discharge capabilities, making it ideal for high-torque, heavy-load electric vehicles.
- It is also suitable for UPS backup systems for servers, providing emergency power to prevent data loss. Additionally, it can be integrated with lithium-ion batteries (LIB) to form an LIB/LIC hybrid energy storage system, combining high energy and power density.
