Integrated Trackside & Onboard Railway Obsticle Detection Solution 2026/09/29

Introductions

Traditional onboard detection systems rely on cloud computing, causing alert latencies of more than 5 seconds that may lead to missed braking windows. Meanwhile, conventional trackside systems are prone to false alarms from weeds or weather interference and lack the long-range resolution needed to identify small 20 cm obstacles. To address these challenges, the integrated trackside and onboard railway obstacle detection solution establishes a dual-layer intelligent protection system with real-time sensing, warning, and preventive maintenance capabilities.

Technical Advantages and Features

  • Onboard Obstacle Detection: Monitors the track clearance zone within the train's line of sight in real time, identifies 20 cm cubic obstacles within 220 m and large obstacles within 276 m, and features intelligent noise suppression, weather adaptation, and automated safety reset mechanisms for detection and positioning.
  • Trackside Obstacle Detection: Provides fixed-point blind spot protection, detecting obstacles as small as 20 cm within a 150 m range in real time. LiDAR-guided pan-tilt-zoom cameras offer visual linkage and real-time video feedback.
  • Dual-layer Protection Network: Integrates onboard and trackside sensing with 5G alerting and vehicle-to-everything dual-mode communication technologies. Alert latency from detection to driver is only 0.361 seconds, while 5G alert transmission to the operations control center takes only 3.5 seconds.

Industrial Applications and Business Opportunities

  • Industry Applications
    • Global railway sectors, including heavy rail, metro, and light rail systems.
  • Application Examples
    • The system has successfully completed field verification on the Taoyuan Metro, reducing alert latency from 5 seconds to approximately 0.3 seconds and securing critical response time for operators.
    • Its beyond-visual-range recognition technology enables all-weather automated detection to minimize losses from unexpected service disruptions.
    • Designed for railway construction and operation companies, the solution is compatible with high-speed rail, conventional rail, metro, and light rail systems to enhance operational safety.
