Introductions
Biochemical and biomedical applications currently suffer from excessive reagent and sample consumption, inefficient reaction and transport processes, extended processing times and bulky non-portable equipment. To overcome these challenges, ITRI has developed advanced microfluidic technologies utilizing microchannels and optimized designs to increase surface-to-volume ratios, enhance mass and heat transfer, reduce the consumption of costly reagents and rare samples as well as improve testing efficiency.
Technical Advantages and Features
- Multiscale Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Simulation: Multiphysics coupling effects between fluid and structure including Fluid–Structure Interaction (FSI), Thermo-Fluid Coupling, and Electric Field Effects. Supports multiscale modeling down to 100 μm, enabling precise simulation of fluid behavior from micro to millimeter scales. Predicts dynamic phenomena such as droplet generation, mixing, separation, and diffusion.
- High-throughput Microporous Membrane Fabrication: Precise control of membrane pore size (≤ 10 μm), distribution (200 μm), and morphology for emulsification, separation, and filtration applications. Supports functional coatings (e.g., hydrophobic/hydrophilic modification, surface functionalization) to increase selectivity.
- Precise Fluid Control and Manipulation: Offers high-precision flow-rate control (1 mL/min) from microliters (μL) to nanoliters (nL) and pressure control accuracy of ≤ 0.3%. Supports multi-channel control for complex microfluidic processes such as single/double emulsification, droplet generation and mixing reaction.
